five 12-minute (+- a few minutes) sections.

1 - start w/ 2 people (mandolin & guitar), others quietly enter between 6-9 minutes and build in volume and become more rhythmic.
2 - four continue to play rhythmically but decrescendo (or possibly drop out) and then have a couple of solos (guitar & tabla).
3 - cued loud start and random drop outs and drop ins (nothing gradual, spontaneous outbursts, screaming encouraged). get more and more sparse towards end (computer will start solo to segue into next section).
4 - similar to 2 (everyone can play quietly or not) w/ solos (computer & mandolin)
5 - cued burst of chaos, die down, build up, cued shut off

yea big by yadda thick

notes: this was the scheme. free improve with a general structure. next time (chicago) we'll just have descriptions of possible scenarios (as above), but no time sequence. perhaps one of the best live events i've been involved with. it really came together and it was good to play in a more collaborative sense with other instruments (and not computer vs. computer). the q&a session afterwards was a bit odd, but that's how things work at the historic Depot.

victory! i was searching for this out of print 3cd set, Ohm: Early Gurus of Electronic Music, that sells for $150 on amazon and $100 on half.com. (last ebay auction $75). all of a sudden another new condition copy pops up for $32 on amazon. i bought it. it's perfect for a class i'm teaching next semester... and then i could sell it. of course i'll probably be tempted to keep it.

"Since John Kerry conceded, there wasn’t that great desire to run out to Columbus and try to figure this out. And the concession is the key because we’re often wimps in the media and we wait for other people to make charges, one political party or the other, and then we investigate.” - Craig Crawford
"...when one voting machine can add 4,000 votes for one presidential candidate in a 650-vote precinct, and another one in the same state can turn a day’s balloting into a net result of negative 25 million, it may also be true that altering those machines may be easy enough that it could be pulled off not only by conspiratorial Election Supervisors, but also, just by a bunch of cats from across the parking lot." - Keith Olbermann
mainstream MSNBC actually discussing all the accounts of voting problems. all found on their own Bloggerman. some more to consider at consortium news. thanks stAllio!

i've been mispronouncing Hot Troche all along (i blame Pol/Cha-Bashira):
Troche: A small medicated lozenge designed to dissolve. For example, to soothe the throat as a cough drop. Strictly speaking, a troche should be circular since the word derives from the Greek "trokhiskos" meaning "a little wheel." Pronounced trOh-key. Sometimes mistakenly pronounced trOhsh or trOhshay under the misapprehension that it is a French word.

reactions to the next four years: the USAR & USAB split. or learn more about the neocons and figure out how to subvert their plans for empire. realistically if most people knew what their idealogy truly was... would they still be in control?

thumbing through Rachel Greene's book Internet Art. some of it i've seen before, but not in such a condensed form. a lot of great activity often embedded with subversive meaning. some day i'll fulfill my dream of doing not only audio & software, but video, net stuff, etc. so much potential... i just have to make sure my dissertation doesn't kill every creative instinct i have.

these exit polls are interesting. gender, race, age, income, union, never voted before, religion, church attendace, military service, married, children, sexuality, gun owner, when decided who to vote for, most important issue, and many others all seem to have significant margins... most of it fairly predictable, but somewhat enlightening as to why people vote the way they do. one of the more interesting stats is in the most important issue section. those who chose Iraq (75% voted for Kerry) vs. those who chose terrorism (14% voted for Kerry). why are these two issues viewed as such separate things? or maybe they are the same issue, but the two candidates just framed them differently?? if you combine them together they become 39% of the voters who thought *it* was the most important issue, but they're severely divided on what to even call it. so it seems if Kerry could have framed Iraq more in terms of a failure to combat terrorism he might have won over more votes. maybe. i also like how Nader got his biggest % from the voters who feel moral values was the most important issue. go Nader, perhaps the only honest politician not willing to compromise or be bought out.

according to my simplistic calculations... if Kerry is behind 136k (cnn.com) in Ohio and there are potentially 250k (the most optimistic figure) provisional/absentee votes then he needs to get over 77.2% of those votes. that's a huge % for such a close state.

voted. the whole thing is kind of depressing. i mostly decided to write in or vote for independents/3rd parties. i'm sick of partisan politics. liberal vs. conservative. everything reduced down to simple binaries. Kurt Vonnegut summed it up best "If you aren’t one or the other, you might as well be a doughnut." i guess i'm turning into a giant pastry.
