"Content people have no clue. I mean, no clue. The cost of bandwidth is going down to nothing. And the size of hard drives is getting so big, and they're so cheap, that pretty soon you'll have every song you own on one hard drive. The content distribution industry is going to evaporate." - Bram Cohen, creator of BitTorrent
"...the prospect of the audience just switching off - not actively concentrating - is quite abhorrent. The fact that even the most rigorous process pieces are often worshipped by those who have ascended to a higher state of (chemically induced?) consciousness is a problematic aspect of the genre..." - Dan Warburton

Eigenradio - listens to several radio stations simultaneously and generates new music. the live stream is a somewhat chaotic mesh and the christmas material has some beautiful spectral ambiance. thx detritus.
Go Canadian - a way for americans to disguise themselves overseas. as my brother states in
his blog: "When I lived in France a decade ago, I noticed that most Canadians proudly displayed a patch of the Canadian flag on their backpacks. When asked why they were so patriotic, the response was always something along the lines of, 'So I am not mistaked as an American.' Some of us Americans considered putting their flag on as well… Finally someone is capitalizing on this idea selling a whole Go Canadian package for the U.S. tourist in Europe that wants to be on vacation and avoid any political fallout or shame. I guess there is a lot more disgust with America in Europe now than 10 years ago. The kit includes a pin, patch, sticker, and t-shirt all emblazoned with the Canadian flag."

we've actually had some really good demos land in the po box the last 6 months or so.. and then an ok one from australia recently and the guy became so nasty (dozens of emails) that i had to create a special filter so as not to be bombarded by so much nonsense. what a jerk and i was open to dialogue about his tracks etc., possibly putting something on a comp or ?? but no, even after i begged to slow down the email... the insults and asinine prose continued to pour in.
online gaming addiction. a student is doing a paper surrounding this topic and i found this
Everquest Daily Grind depressing (yet fascinating). do people really spend most of their awake hours playing these games? and you can actually find auctions for high level characters for $1500. i remember
this article from a few years ago detailing the real economy EverQuest has spawned.

Keith Olbermann is perhaps the only mainstream journalist doing truly investigative work. i don't possess that right cable sub to watch his show, but his blog is perhaps the best source for following the Ohio problems/potential recount. nothing will probably come of it. it's amazing, though, that other media completely ignores the story (except for the typical fringe conspiracy theorists).
why do i like this Secret Machines song? i worry that it will be like TV On The Radio. one good song, a bunch of downloaded mp3s.. and nothing else to really stir me. oh the rock music these days. crackernuts!
ok, so i thought
bleep.com was pretty nice months ago and now it is even better that they've added a multitude of labels (and hopefully even more to come). what's so great is that you can listen to any track on any album. it stops after 30 seconds and then you just hit play again. previously they just had the warp stuff (which is intermittently good although often too watered down for my ears). sometime in the last months they added planet mu, schematic, skam, mego, sonig, etc.... a bunch of electronic labels that are occasionally brilliant, but not guaranteed (although i'm becoming more enamored with planet mu).
